Born in California as Camilla Belle Routh, her mother, Cristina, is Brazilian, and her father, Jack, is American. Her mother is a fashion designer and her father owns a construction company. He is building Belle her first home. Camilla is an only child. She was named after a character played by Renata Sorrah in her mother's favorite Brazilian soap opera "Cavalo de Aço" (1973).
Finally ready for mainstream success, Belle starred in the 2005 remake of When a Stranger Calls, followed by a role in the thriller The_Quiet, in which she played an orphaned deaf girl who is placed in the sordid and incestuous household of her godparents and their daughter, played by another sultry teen star, Elisha_Cuthbert. She was cast in the prehistoric action film 10,000 B.C., starred in the poignant drama Adrift, the comedy Father of Invention, and the 2011 laugher From Prada to Nada.
Amid rumors about relationships with Jonas and "Twilight" (2009) heartthrob Robert Pattinson, Belle began to break away from broad genre pics with a starring role in Bruce Willis' directorial debut "Three Stories About Joan" (2009), a romantic drama co-starring Owen Wilson and Kieran Culkin. In 2010, Belle was a surprising casting choice to play the title character in "Mary, Mother of Christ" (2010), a historic chronicle of the life of Mary co-starring heavy-hitting thespian Peter O'Toole and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
