Miranda May Kerr was born in Sydney and raised in the small town of Gunnedah to John and Therese Kerr. Kerr's paternal grandmother lived on a farm, where she "raced motorbikes and rode horses." Her parents later moved the family to Brisbane when she and her younger brother Matthew were teenagers. She originally aspired to become a nutritionist and later studied nutrition and health psychology after her high school graduation, but entered a magazine contest shortly before her fourteenth birthday. Kerr attended All Hallows' School, where she graduated in 2000.
Miranda Kerr moved to New York in 2004. Kerr had a number of runway appearances before signing with Next model agency the same year. Soon after that she could be seen in ad campaigns and runway shows for such labels as Baby Phat, Lisa Ho, Voodoo Dolls, Levi’s, Bettina Liano, Nicola Finetti, L.A.M.B., Heatherette, Betsey Johnson, Trelise Cooper, Jets, John Richmond, Blumarine Swimwear, Neiman Marcus, Seafolly Swimwear, Anna Molinari, Rock and Republic and Roberto Cavalli. Miranda was also featured in such magazines as Elle, Australian Vogue, Madisonand Harpers Bazaar, as well as TV adverts for Portmans, Bonds and Veet. “At this stage, I’m really enjoying where I’m at doing the modelling but if an opportunity came up, I would definitely look into it,” she said.
Miranda Kerr began her professional modeling career after winning a 1997 contest for the teen girl magazine Dolly in Australia. Miranda Kerr was a skinny 13-year-old at the time, and her win added to the ongoing debate over what's age-appropriate in fashion; the dust-up helped boost Kerr's career and she has since modeled for designers, magazines and catalogs. A multi-racial and dimpled brunette, Miranda Kerr gained a higher profile in 2006 when she signed a deal to promote Maybelline cosmetics and was picked to model lingerie for Victoria's Secret. She married the actor Orlando Bloom in July of 2010; they had a son, Flynn, on 6 January 2011.
